At the University of Lincoln, we aim to provide a supportive and collaborative environment, where researchers can develop the knowledge and skills needed to meet their career goals and aspirations.
To help achieve this, we regularly invite expressions of interest for externally funded fellowship schemes. These schemes offer a range of opportunities for researchers currently based in the UK and around the world, who can be hosted by the University of Lincoln for the duration of the fellowship. The fellowships are also available for academics and researchers working at the University.
The British Academy Postdoctoral Fellowship offers outstanding early career researchers the opportunity to strengthen their experience of research and teaching in an academic environment through their Postdoctoral Fellowships. This scheme aims to help develop the award holder’s curriculum vitae and boost their prospects of obtaining a permanent academic post. The primary emphasis is on the completion of a significant piece of publishable research, and the integration of the award holder into the community of established scholars within their field. The Fellowship is tenable for three years, starting autumn 2025 in a UK based university or higher education institution or independent research organisation. The Fellowship is non-renewable.
Currently, the Academy funds 80% of salary costs, with research expenses are covered at 100%, which is set at £6,000 over the three years of the fellowship.

British Academy Global Professorships seek to support academics proposing ambitious, high-risk, curiosity-driven research in the humanities and social sciences. Awards will provide up to £900,000 over four years and are expected to add significant value to the UK host institutions, and vice versa.
Applicants must be based outside the UK at the time of application and hold a doctoral degree (or be an established scholar with relevant equivalent experience).

The University of Lincoln supports applications for Leverhulme Early Career Fellowships across its schools, colleges, and institutes. These fellowships are designed to help early career researchers who have a research record but who have not yet held a full-time permanent academic post undertake a significant piece of publishable work. The scheme is based on a pattern of joint support where the Leverhulme Trust will contribute 50% of the Fellow’s total salary costs up to a maximum of £28,000 in each year of the award. The Fellow may request up to £6,000 per annum in research expenses to further their research activities.

The Royal Academy of Engineering (RAEng) offers Research Fellowships each year to outstanding early-career researchers to support them to become future research leaders in engineering. The Academy welcomes applications from early-career researchers worldwide who have been awarded their PhD in the last four years.
Each application is capped at a maximum contribution from the Academy of £625,000 over a five-year period, at 80% of full economic costs.

The Royal Society’s Faraday Discovery Fellowships are large, investigator-led grants awarded to a single Principal Investigator to enable them to establish an outstanding team of researchers to address challenging research questions. The Faraday Discovery Fellowships does not operate thematic priorities, but the Royal Society will consider applications from all areas of science (STEM) that are covered by the Royal Society remit. You must be a mid-career researcher to apply (10-20 years post-PhD, but exceptions may apply—please see the scheme guidance for further information).
The programme will provide grants up to £8 million over a ten-year period to support the development of world-leading research groups in UK Universities and Research Institutes.

The University supports applications for the UK Research and Innovation fellowships, which are designed to develop, retain, attract, and sustain research and innovation talent in the UK. They also aim to foster new research and innovation career paths, including those at the academic/business and interdisciplinary boundaries and facilitate movement of people between sectors; provide sustained funding and resources for the best early career researchers and innovators; and offer long-term, flexible funding to tackle difficult and novel challenges, supporting adventurous and ambitious programmes.
We also offer a range of scholarships and project-specific studentships for postgraduate researchers, giving them the chance to get involved in some of the exciting research projects taking place at Lincoln. Our doctoral training partnerships and centres, which bring together academic expertise and cutting-edge resources, offer further opportunities to researchers.
